Easy Way to Lose Reputation Baldurs Gate

   Baldur's Gate (10 reputation points lost)

   I have lost 10 reputation points for seemingly no reason in Baldur's Gate. How do I set the reputation points back to 20?

   I counted how much gold I would lose. (Hint: Way over 1,000 gold. :( )

   I probably will donate to the local church, as you suggested, but I'm concerned this may be a bug that would affect future games of BG.

   Where were you when this happened and what exactly were you doing? There are few cases where there might be a non-obvious reason for it.

   I was fighting for the rich guy in Cloakwood forest. The druids basically came along and after a brief conversation about wanting to kill the rich man said, "We kill you!!! /Achmed" because I wouldn't let them kill him. I fought and killed the druids. And then I left the game. When I reloaded, the reputation wasn't 20 anymore.

   So you're in the first Cloakwood area? I don't think you're supposed to lose Reputation for that. Anything else that might have happened?

   In any case, 1000gp is practically nothing after a while. Sure, it's a tenth of the cash you have on you, but there's not a whole lot of interesting things to buy unless you're really into using up consumables.

   Well, are you sure that your reputation was 20 before this encounter?
   As mentioned non of the druids are classed as "innocent" so no reputation loss for killing them should occur.

   What version do you run? BG1 or BGT?
   If BG1, which patch version?

   Regarding the restoration of reputation via donation to churches: the exact ammount of gold needed to get 1 point of reputation (you can not gain more then one point/donation) for a donation is referenced in the manual.
   Iirc. you can't pay your way up to 20 though.

    Yeah pretty sure you pay up to 18 then get the last two from quests.

    If you're early enough in the game that 1000 gold is a lot, there's a good chance that your rep wasn't 20 yet. Just sayin'.

    GateKeeper (or ShadowKeeper if you're playing BGT/Tutu) is a quick and easy way to fix it if you don't mind using a save game editor. If you're opposed to that, do you have an earlier save that would minimize the progress lost? I advise anyone playing any RPG to have 2 save slots per playthrough and just alternate which one you save into.

    If you don't want to spend your hard-earned money on rebuilding your reputation, you can use the console to give yourself enough cash to cover the cost.

    No, It was 20 reputation. All done through quests.
